Christmas is Coming: Day 3 & 4

In general, I think of Christmas as a holiday for kids. They are so open to the Birth Story of Jesus and they love the hustle and bustle (and don't feel the stress). I do everything I can to make the way we celebrate Christmas kid-friendly. But, there is one tradition that I hold very dear that is NOT kid-oriented. That tradition is our annual trip down to Chicagoland to go shopping at Ikea (and other fun places). Although I have brought brand-new babies in the past, this year was truly kid-free as all three of my little darlings got to spend the entire day with Daddy.

So, this past Saturday, my mom and sister and I, as well as my mother-in-law and one of her friends hit the road southward to engage in this annual event. It was lovely. We had a great time at Ikea (although I managed to grab the box for the wrong-sized lantern, oh well) as we shopped and chatted. Then we drove over to Vogue Fabrics - which might be even more fun then Ikea. I could have spent a LOT of money, but managed to restrain myself to just the fabric I really needed for a Christmas maternity top. By the end of the day I was exhausted, but certainly felt in the proper Christmas spirit.

Yesterday, Ian helped me assemble some of my purchases.

Here is my new Christmas lantern. When I finally get around to decorating my front door, this will go on the front porch.

Here is my new toy storage unit. It will help in my never-ending quest to corral all my kids most precious possessions. If that doesn't help with the Christmas feeling, nothing will!

Merry Christmas!

Too bad about your GD or I would have insisted we enjoy cinnamon rolls and coffee before we left IKEA.

Which lantern did you want? :(

Oh bummer about the lantern! You know, it was either when we were at checkout or loading the van that the a fleeting observation crossed my mind that the box that lantern in was potentially the smaller size...but I think we were talking about something else and the thought was gone. Wish I had said something right away because the big one would have been great for your steps. =(

Oh...and as for Vogue...when you say you could have spent A LOT of money, were you referring to the cashmere that was $129.00 a yard? Uff da!!

Had a fun day with you and mom. =D
